The idea for the postpartum journal came from a very personal place. After giving birth to my son, I found myself overwhelmed with everything. My mind and heart flooded with emotion, my body healing and changing, all the while learning how to take care of a new baby. After months of struggle, I began to realize that I was suffering from postpartum depression and postpartum anxiety. Through this journey, I started meeting other mothers. Some of them suffered from postpartum mood disorders like me, but most of them did not. Each time, however, I found myself having the same conversations with each of them. I learned that I was not the only mother who felt alone or who struggled. I felt both relief and sadness each time I heard this.
The postpartum time is such a unique, special, loving and challenging time all rolled into one. During this time it can often feel like we, the mothers, becomes less important. We can easily fall to the background. The intent for this journal is for you to take time each week to check in with yourself and how you are doing and feeling. This journal will give you the space needed to write your feelings, good or bad, to remember all of the details, and to provide encouragement when needed.
It is my hope that this journal will be there for you during your postpartum journey, to help you feel less alone and supported. I would love to build a community of women who support and stand by one another as we face the challenges and joy of motherhood.
